How to Apply for CPCU Society Service
If you’re interested in serving as a CPCU Society officer, director, interest group/standing committee member or task force member, you must submit the following forms:
1. Application for CPCU Society Service
2. Member Interest and Skills Profile, so that you can be best matched to volunteer opportunities
CPCU Society Vice President
CPCUs may apply for the position of Society vice president, moving automatically to the positions of president-elect, president and chairman/chairwoman, and immediate past president, for a total commitment of four years. Desired experience for vice president includes leadership roles in chapters and/or interest groups, and CPCU Society committee or task force work. Demonstrated leadership experience in business, professional or nonprofit organizations is also required. If nominated, the applicant is expected to be highly visible, represent the Society at various public functions and attend all required meetings. CPCUs are invited to submit an Application for CPCU Society Service to be considered for service.
CPCU Society Secretary
The secretary is responsible for keeping an accurate record of all meetings of the Society, the Leadership Council and the Executive Committee. The Secretary helps interpret the bylaws and makes sure the organization complies with any governmental regulations pertaining to recordkeeping and other functions of not-for-profits. CPCUs are invited to submit an Application for CPCU Society Service to be considered for service. The secretary has a three-year commitment.
CPCU Society Treasurer
The treasurer chairs the Budget & Finance Committee, submits periodic financial statements to the Leadership Council and to the members of the Society, and ensures that financial accounts of the Society are open at all times to inspection by any member or any authorized auditors. CPCUs are invited to submit an Application for CPCU Society Service to be considered for service. The treasurer has a three-year commitment.
Leadership Council Member
The individual in this position addresses CPCU Society concerns. Attendance at all CPCU Leadership Council meetings is required. Demonstrated leadership experience in business, professional, or nonprofit organizations and local chapter or CPCU Society committee/task force experience is suggested. CPCUs are invited to submit an Application for CPCU Society Service to be considered for service. Leadership Council members serve three-year terms.
Chapter Governor
This position serves as a liaison between the Leadership Council and the chapters and facilitates communication between the Leadership Council and chapter officers. Attendance at all chapter governors meetings is required. CPCUs are invited to submit an Application for CPCU Society Service to be considered for service. Chapter governors serve three-year terms.
Interest Group Governor
This position serves as a liaison between the Leadership Council and the interest groups, and it facilitates communication between the Leadership Council and interest group leadership. Attendance at all interest group governors meetings is required. CPCUs are invited to submit an Application for CPCU Society Service to be considered for service. Interest group governors serve three-year terms.
Standing Committees and Interest Group Committees
CPCUs should submit an Application for CPCU Society Service if interested in serving a three-year term as a member or chair of one of the standing committees—Budget & Finance, Diversity, Ethics, or Nominating—or one of the 14 interest group committees—Agent & Broker; Claims; Coverage, Litigators, Educators & Witnesses; Information Technology; International Insurance; Leadership & Managerial Excellence; Loss Control; Personal Lines; Professional Experience Resource; Regulatory & Legislative; Reinsurance; Risk Management; and Underwriting. Interest group committee projects are centered on common issues affecting their interest groups and include seminars, symposia, publications, newsletters and research.
Task Forces
As the Leadership Council identifies projects to advance the Society's strategic goals and initiatives, it will create and populate task forces as necessary. CPCUs are invited to submit an Application for CPCU Society Service to be considered for service on a task force. Task force members generally serve 6 to 18 months.
