Breakfast of Champions — Iowa Chapter
Breakfast of Champions — Iowa Chapter

Adam Haugerud, CPCU, MBA, is a pricing supervisor with Nationwide in Des Moines, IA. Adam describes the CPCU Society Iowa chapter’s approach to the Breakfast of Champions, and the results they have experienced:
“On May 4th, the Iowa chapter held a Breakfast of Champions. All of the local Champions were invited to a breakfast meet and greet, focusing on getting to know each other and the companies they represented. Our chapter once had similar meetings, but the group had not been together in years, and many prior Champions had left and others had recently joined. Currently, there are 12 Champions in our chapter.”
“Since this meeting was in essence a new beginning, we did not focus too much on what we are currently doing as Champions. We also felt that since the fiscal year was coming to an end, we would have more impact discussing future meetings, and how we need to be proactive at the beginning of the year so we could put our discussions into action.”
“Main discussion points centered on what we can do to recruit additional Champions, as well as how we can get more involved within our organizations. This led to a discussion around upcoming Society changes regarding the Circle of Excellence program and how Champions will be key to the success of future Connections visits, as well as increasing the demand for the CPCU designation. Since our chapter is very fortunate to have a lot of employer support, we felt our energy would be best spent showing the benefits of membership, including the ability to stay on the leading edge of our industry through all of the Society’s publications.”
“Although this meeting was very informal, I think the group was energized when we were done. It was a great way to break the ice and get to know all of the local Champions. We have decided that meeting at least once a year as a group will be beneficial for our chapter and our employers.”
“The Iowa Champions are a talented and committed group of individuals with a passion for insurance and the CPCU designation. I look forward to future group meetings, and to increasing both the number of Champions as well as their local involvement. The cost of this event was negligible, especially when compared to the potential outcomes. I would encourage every chapter look at supporting their Champions and host an event that allows them to gather.”
Thank you Adam, and the Iowa chapter, for your continuing support!
